Why You Shouldn’t Reply to Scammers

Almost everyone with an email address has had a scam in their inbox.

Some scammers are amateurs, while others are from dangerous criminal gangs. However, they all have one thing in common: they are absolutely despicable.

When we receive a scam email, many of us express some righteous anger at whichever awful human is on the other end.

It’s an innocent way of letting off steam. Someone tried to scam you? Fire an email back with enough creative swearing to make Malcolm Tucker blush.

However, replying to a scam email is always counterproductive.

This is because scammers will send out thousands or even millions of emails at a time. They don’t know if someone is reading these messages. All they know is that if they send enough emails, some people are bound to fall victim.

By replying, all we’re doing is showing our email address belongs to a real human who actively checks their emails. This shows the scammer that we’re a prime target.

Replying to nuisance emails increases the amount of them we get.

Nobody is completely immune from being scammed, and the more scam emails we receive, the more chances there are for us to fall victim.
