Sadly, no defence is completely effective. Nothing can give total protection.

Many antivirus products we can buy – even popular ones sold in stores – are dodgy.

They might slow down our computers, scare us into buying subscriptions, or make themselves hard to remove.

If you’re using a Windows machine, you already have defences which are on by default. The same goes for Apple desktop computers.

The one exception is if you’re using a very outdated operating system, like Windows 10. You will get official warnings if this is the case.
