DP06 Protecting Devices

Organisations often let people use their own computers and phones for work.

This is called “BYOD”, or Bring Your Own Device.

Even something simple, like using your own PC for an online meeting, is classed as Bring Your Own Device.

Some workplaces have strict rules on using your own devices for work. You might have to install special software on them, or protect them to a higher standard.

These workplaces will usually set out what you can and can’t do in a BYOD policy.

Policies like these can be very dull and restrictive, but it’s important to follow them nonetheless.
