DP02 Keeping Personal Information Safe

In the modern world, knowledge is power.

Information like our name might not seem important. But just knowing our full name, address and birthday might let someone steal our identity.

Organisations use our data for different things. Social networks use it to personalise the adverts we see, while hospitals keep records on our health.

We trust these organisations to store our data safely. But what happens when things go wrong?

When an organisation loses our personal data, it’s called a personal data breach.

This could be a laptop being stolen in a cafe, or a sensitive email that’s sent to the wrong person.
